Sandra Faxon's collages add a touch of whimsy and delight for Cape Cod ("Turtle Island") lovers. Her works are described as "painting with scissors" using vividly colored hand-painted papers to carve her playful creations. Sandy lives in Falmouth's famous hamlet of Woods Hole, an internationally known marine research center, where she owns the Local Colors Gallery just one block from the ferry to Martha's Vineyard.
After a professional career as an educational workshop leader integrating the creative arts (music, movement, drama, and art) as well as a child and family therapist, she returned to Cape Cod, where she had spent her summers as a child, to live year-round and practice art full time. Along with collages, her miniature watercolors of Nobska Lighthouse and other local landmarks, silly characters on the beach, various local birds, etc. all reflect her humorous take on life.
You can find Sandy at the gallery, which is also her studio, and watch her making her latest creations. Or you can bring in a photo of your kids, house, or pets for her to do. Ask Sandy about her private art sessions or the wedding packages she makes with original paintings of the church, as well as prints and thank you cards. When Sandy is not at the gallery, she is 5 minutes away at her home studio... try both phone numbers listed.
